Panasonic is the market leader in bread makers and its flagship SD-YR2540 is the model to opt for if you want access to a wide variety of breads and doughs. In basic mode it’s an absolute cinch to use – as easy as a boiling a kettle – and most of the bread and dough it musters up is very good indeed. Yes, the jury’s out on the quality of some of the crusts it has produced, but in the main it’s pulled out all the stops and is an extremely convenient way to produce home-baked bread.

Superb bread maker my only gripe I would like more recipes like my previous Panasonic bread makers.

My first ever bread machine and I will start with the pro's... Its really easy to use and turns out consistently amazing bread and doughs every time. Love using it. Have made various loaves, pizza dough, Scotch rolls etc - all fantastic. However, I've dropped one star. The readout - for something thats supposed to be the cutting edge of breadmakers - is like something from an old 1980's digital clock. Very poor lcd display with no illumination. Its unreadable unless you are directly over it. We keep the machine on the worktop and under-cabinet lighting makes it even worse - the reflections are awful on the display. It really is like the worst cost-cutting you've ever seen on a premium machine. A full miniature lcd or oled touchscreen is needed here.

Panasonic’s latest bread maker does an excellent job of turning out evenly browned, well-risen loaves, whether your preference is for white, wholemeal or gluten-free. It’s expensive, but the automatic raisin/nut and yeast dispensers mean there’s no need to stop what you’re doing to add ingredients to the machine yourself, which justifies the hefty price tag.
