This is the tripod I have been looking for, great design and the extra leg extension makes it an all around tripod. Studio or outdoors this is a great addition to my camera gear.

I ordered the Gitzo GT3543XLS and was disappointed with the quality control. It had some white (greasy) material on the leg locks you twist with your hands, the box itself was covered in thick dust. Not a great start... Yes, its an amazing tripod. Super tall, very solid and stable. BUT, I decided to explore alternatives, and glad I did. I came upon the Robus RC-5570, so ordered to compare. The Robus is nearly as tall, nearly as stable, built with comparable materials and the fit and finish is absolutely stellar. I like the feel of the leg locks in my hands better as well. For me saving $400 on the tripod purchase and getting a product that is 95% of the Gitzo, made great sense.

Im tall...this fits me perfectly... Im not a huge fan of the wobbly foot pads...they always seem to be in the wrong place/orientation.

My first tripod was a high quality, carbon fiber unit good for all-around use and light enough to backpack with. After purchasing a 600mm supertelephoto lens my tripod couldn't hold my lens steady enough for decent photos so I researched heavier duty tripods. I narrowed my search to the Gitzo GT3543XLS and the RRS TVC 34L, both top-of-the-line, excellent tripods. I settled on the Gitzo because it was a little cheaper. I'm 5'11" and my Gitzo will extend to my height without fully extending the legs. This translates to additional stability and more crisp photos. The only negative, if I can call it a negative, is when fully compressed the length is a few inches longer than the RRS, which makes it a little more challenging to transport on airlines. But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and confident my tripod will last me for many years to come.

I wanted a good tripod that would handle any situation that I would come across while shooting, I wanted a bowl and it was a breeze to set-up. The quality and stability are exceptional. I was hesitant about spending as much as I did for the tripod, but know that I have seen and used this quality product, I have no regrets on this purchase. I highly recommend the Gitzo tripod.
